Pinot Gris 2010

Zest Magazine, The Press June 2011

"Even unopened this is a standout “look at me” with a big vertical THE running down the label. But what about where it really matters? Yes ,another standout .This is a sweet pears and cream pinot gris from Marlborough. There’s a bit of spice in the mix and it comes across wonderfully fresh .The balance is excellent and the taste lasts a long time Luckily it’s a taste you want to last".  Ewen Sargent.

"An immensely appealing Pinot Gris showing lifted aromas of pear drop, pineapple and floral with a hint of spice. The palate is lively and succulent with whispering sweetness (3.5 g/l) and perfectly pitched acidity. The wine finishes fabulously long".  Sam Kim June 2011

Raymond Chan April 2011 4 stars 17.5/20

"Very pale straw-yellow with green hues to the colour, this has a full, soft bouquet of ripe pear fruit with notes of honey and tropical fruits. Dry on palate, this is full, open, broad and very accessible, showing good depth and weight of pear and stone fruit flavours. Some soft textures and a little alcohol heat are noticeable, but add to the mouth filling expression. The wine finishes with attractively sweet fruit nuances. Fermented in stainless-steel to 14.0% alc and 3.2 g/L rs, the wine was given some lees stirring. Serve with chicken and pork dishes over the next 2-4 years"

Top 6 Scenic Cellars Pinot Gris Tasting February 2011

"The talents of winemaker Sam Smail are responsible for this delicious example of Marlborough Pinot Gris. Classic ripe pear and stonefruit flavours, with an attractive creamy/textural element tying everything together superbly. Made in an off-dry style. Gulpable now and over the next couple of years"

86/100 (4 Stars) Bob Campbell Wine Review September 2010

"Quite a weighty, medium/dry Pinot Gris with pear, nectarine and leafy, yeast lees characters. Good food wine offering an array of flavours beyond simple pear juice. Offers value at this price."

"Ripe and gentle on the nose displaying peach, pear and floral characters. The palate is fruity and smooth with subtle sweetness (9 g/l) and balanced acidity. The wine is elegantly textured and lingering on the finish” Sam Kim.
