2011 marlborough sauvignon blanc

From the ground up we start with the basics, to make not good, but great wine. Vines nurtured with passion, grown against a backdrop of clay terraces and natural springs in the heart of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley. We know this land, this soil, these grapes. Our wine reflects this. Crafted with patience, it's the very essence of all that we are.

In a nutshell…

Plentiful aromas of tropical fruit and freshly chopped capsicum with zesty flavours of ripe fruit salad, just-picked garden herbs and mineral and floral overtones. Classic Marlborough.

Sauvignon Blanc

Colour

Bright clarity, with mid straw hue

Aroma / Bouquet

The wine has the region’s characteristic gooseberry and grapefruit aromas with ripe apple and mineral notes, characteristic of the Renwick sub-region.

Palate

Fresh, natural acidity gives the wine a freshness that supports the clean, focused flavours and great length.  It is finely balanced and can be drunk without further cellaring.

Suggested Food Matches

This wine is ideal for accompanying pasta dishes, crisp summer salads, and seafood especially shellfish such as greenshell mussels and oysters .Serve chilled.

Grape Growing

The vines were pruned to 2-3 canes, with vertical shoot positioning.  Balanced pruning, shoot thinning, tucking and trimming ensured a partially shaded canopy was maintained.  The early ripening season was mild and dry.  Favourable conditions over budburst lead to a good fruit set.  Wetter weather over late December caused rapid growth and a need for careful canopy management.  The later part of the season was both warm and dry, with cool nights to retain acid freshness and delicate flavours.  The fruit reached full maturity and optimum ripeness just before heavy rains in mid April.
