2011 marlborough pinot gris

From the ground up we start with the basics, to make not good, but great wine. Vines nurtured with passion, grown against a backdrop of clay terraces and natural springs in the heart of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley. We know this land, this soil, these grapes. Our wine reflects this. Crafted with patience, it's the very essence of all that we are.

In a nutshell…

Enjoy the aromas and flavours of orchard pears, figs And quince. Creamy and rich with just enough sweetness and a touch of spice that lingers on the palate. This full-bodied wine has a rich and weighty texture

Pinot Gris

Colour / Appearance

Mid-straw with a slight green hue.

Aroma / Bouquet

Lifted aromatic pear and fig fruit flavours, with hints of nougat and nutmeg spice.

Palate

A ripe fruit flavoured wine with a soft, luscious texture.  The primary fruit flavours are accompanied by hints of spice, that persist on the lengthy clean, dry finish.

Suggested Food Matches

Quiches, poultry, creamy pasta and seafood dishes.  Serve slightly chilled.

Grape Growing

The vines were pruned to 2 canes, with vertical shoot positioning.  Balanced pruning, shoot/fruit thinning, and regular canopy management.  The early ripening season was cooler than average, resulting in a late flowering.  However, warm dry conditions over budburst and later in the season lead to balanced yields, clean fruit and excellent flavours.

Winemaking

Fruit was handpicked and whole bunch pressed.  The heavy pressings were separated and fined before being added back.  The juice was fermented in stainless steel, using a selected yeast strain to promote the variety’s inherent aromatic flavours and luscious texture.  Post ferment, the wine was stirred on lees to further aid mouth feel and texture.
