T H E  vineyard

The Terrace Heights Estate vineyard is situated on the lower terrace of the Wairau plains just west of Renwick.

The vineyard was first planted in 1993/94.  Along the way it has been expanded and, where once cherry and apple trees stood in the nineties, we now have around 32ha of vines from the original sauvignon vines through to new plantings.

Our varietal mix is predominantly Sauvignon Blanc with more modest plantings of Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and just to add a bit of interest a small plot of Viognier.  This bore its first crop for the Terrace Heights Estate label in the 2008 vintage.

Well maintained vines for the best grapes
We are also doing a lot of amenity plantings around the vineyard. This mainly focuses on the terraced area where we have, as a result of numerous natural springs, made ponds and done a lot of native and companion planting.

This is an ongoing programme which adds some interest to an otherwise fairly structured look.  Both Gibson's Creek & Tyler's Stream wend their way through the vineyard and add a lot to the feel of the vineyard.
